One of the easiest ways of achieving the goal of mukti is bhaktiyoga. The bhaktiyoga is a process of realization of union (as variously conceived by the bhaktas) of the individual soul with the divine being through love and devotion. To attain salvation or mukti one needs to need all his desires and become a 'vairagi". Narada in this Bhaktisutras, has defined bhakti as the utmost love" (parama prema) of God. Sandilya in his Bhaktisutra says that "Bhakti is the utmost attachment or love to God and it is said that one who has that becomes immortal" In DeviBhagavata is said that bhakti is anuraga (attachment to God). The love for and attachment to God. According to Narada Bhaktisutra should be so deep that everything belonging to the Bhakti is offered to God and on being separated from him he is unbearably uneasy and unhappy. Bhakti is three kinds: Vaidhi Ragatmika i) ii) iii) Para 11 "sa tvasmin premarupa" Bhakti Su.- Verse-2. 86

The Bhagavad Gita discusses the bhaktiyoga as an easire path of Yoga. The Gita says that when a devotee's love for God reaches its climax, his love for God is known as the Yoga of devotion. The devotee wants nothing in return and when loves God in such a way his love takes from of Yoga which is called the Yoga of devotion or bhaktiyoga. In the twenty second verse of eight chapters Lord krsna reflects the Yoga of devotion when he says- "purusah as parah parh bhaktya labhyastvanvanya yasyantah sthani bhutani yena sarvamidam tam" 9912 "patram puspam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayachati tadaham bhaktyupachrtmasnami prayatat manah' 9913 When we go through the seventeenth verse of the twelveth chapter, we find what Lord Krsna himself explains devotion as- "yo na hrsyati na dvesti na sacati na kanksati 14 subhasubha parityagi bhaktimanyah sa me priyah" 14 Bhaktiyoga is the simplest of all varieties of Yoga because it does not imply any special intellectual ability on the part of the practitioner. The devotee must prepare to obtain the grace and mercy of God, through devotion and the practice of virtues. The devotee ultimately aspires to become with the object of devotion, eternally resting in peace and happiness with him. The devotee surrenders all his motives and actions to divine power. He renounces all responsibility for Good and Evil, consequences of what he does in the name of God. He is a religious 12 Sri. Srimad Bhagabad Gita -VIII-22 13 .Ibid-IX-26 14 .Ibid- XII-17 87

person. He lives amicably with all human beings, does no harm to others, reads religious literature, focuses on one thing (God), and lives a simple life. This variety of Yoga appeals to the common man because it develops a feeling of security in the devotee. This feeling is developed because the devotee has a kind of dependence on the object of this devotion i.e. the supreme creator God. It also appeals because of its simplicity in the way of performing it. The devotee just devotes himself to God and leaves all his worries and anxieties on him. And 'He' really helps him. The elimination at distractions from the mind is also achieved through the path of Bhakti towards God is the form of one's chosen deity. Bhakti is the state where there is no vibhakti, where there is no separation of his thoughts, fellings and actions from God consciousness, such a constant communion with God naturally makes the individual imbibe the same goodly attriutely describe above. Mentally offering every one of this physical intellectual and mental action to him is prescribed as the process of achieving such constant communication with God. Which is turn removes to egoistic consciousness of deership in him and reveals the truth then he is just an instrument in the hand of God. Further on even this sense of being on instrumental given place to a state where in constant good awareness takes over all the functions of his existence. Bhaktiyoga is prescribed for this age. Following this path one reaches God more easily than following others. No doubt one can reach God by following the paths of Jnana and karma, but they are very difficult paths. It is to keep the mind turned to the Good by singing his name and his glories. It is not possible to print an image on bare glass, but only on glass colored with a black solution, as in photography. The solution of guilt in devotion to God. The purification of prema takes us to the shrine of Bhakti. First we give material things food, comfort and wealth. It is tyaga of material possessions. If we give up our ego and our attachments, then we elevate to the platform of Bhakti. Therefore, Bhakti is prema plus sangati or prapti prema plus surrender. Then there is surrender, our prema is purified. In Bhakti we surrender totally and intellectually, we surrender totally. Surrender to houses? Surrendering to a personal god saguna-bhakti or reality, the purest consciousness of nirguna-bhakti. Our limits disappear. 89

All shortcomings disappear. We expand into the eternal cosmic and omnipresent divinity. We turn to that supreme satcidananda. Therefore, each time we lose more and more of our individuality and reach that state of greater existence, consciousness and bliss. Many times we shudder to think of losing our individuality (our identity). We cannot show our ego. Many of rationalize many of the research schools condemn Bhakti for this reason. They even condemn Sangati because it kills individually. By killing individually we lose our creativity and therefore, we lose our confidence. That is their objection. But actually, exactly the reverse happens when we surrender. By surrendering we surrender our limitations; we surrender our strong likes and dislikes. We surrender our obsessions. Then automatically we get purified. We expands, we become more powerful we start imbibing the qualities of our istadeva (god of choice) by tuning ourselves to that level in saguna bhakti. In nirguna bhakti, we reach that deep state of silence; the above of freedom, creativity, knowledge and bliss become that ultimate itself. To be egoistic is to be constricted. To be individualistic is contraction. To be selfish is contraction to be limited is contraction surrender is the opposite is the opposite. The ego is to be surrendered. Individual likes and dislikes are to be given up. Selfishness is to be relinguished. That is the path of Bhakti. In bhakti we topple the entire tree of ego by cutting the very root, because the root is the attachment. Root is the "I-nss". If we can give up that ego, which is not very easy then the whole tree of ignorance is toppled down. In rajayoga, we cut the branch, in Jnana Yoga, we cut the trunk but in bhaktiyoga, we uproot the entire tree. That is the spcialist of the science of emotions culture. Operating on our emotions, purifying our emotion, raising ourselves from more kamas to orema, from prema raising ourselves to Bhakti, culminating in 90
