Uttamottama (उत्तमोत्तम) is a Sanskrit technical term, referring to a classification of īṻ, used in the construction of ṅg. To obtain the measurement of the side of the uttamottama type of īṻ, divide the total length of the ṅg into 24 equal parts (sometimes 32 parts), and take 24 parts for the length of the side. The word ṅg refers to a symbol used in the worship of Śiva and is used thoughout Śaiva literature, such as the sacred Āgamas.

Uttamottama (उत्तमोत्तम) refers to the “best of the best (Yogas)�, according to the Śivayogadīpikā by Sadāśivayogīśvara: a text dealing with Śaivism and Haṭhayoga in two hundred and eighty-nine verses.—Accordingly, while discussing the four Yogas: “Because of their ever increasing pre-eminence, [these] Yogas [of Mantra, Laya, Haṭha and Rāja] are the only four [needed]. Among them, this unique [Rājayoga], which is the best of the best Rājayogas, is the foremost [i.e., uttamottamaᲹDzdzٳٲdzٳٲ��.
