Prior to meditation (诲丑测腻苍补), these (internal austerities) are of nine, four, ten, five, and two kinds, respectively. (21)

From the use of the term 鈥榬espectively鈥� these are taken as follows. Expiation鈥�辫谤腻测补艣肠颈迟迟补鈥搃s of nine kinds. Reverence鈥�vinaya鈥搃s of four kinds. Service鈥�惫补颈测腻惫峁泃迟测补鈥搃s of ten kinds. Study鈥�蝉惫腻诲丑测腻测补鈥搃s of five kinds. Renunciation鈥�vyutsarga鈥搃s of two kinds. Meditation is excluded here as there is plenty to be said about it. Hence it will be described later.
