The subdivisions of the first, expiationâ€�±è°ùÄå²â²¹Å›³¦¾±³Ù³Ù²¹, are described.

Relating, without the ten faults, one’s transgressions to the master is confessionâ€�Äå±ô´Ç³¦²¹²ÔÄå. Expression of penitence by uttering, “My fault be condoned,â€� is repentanceâ€�±è°ù²¹³Ù¾±°ì°ù²¹³¾²¹á¹‡a. As the sin is corrected by the combination of the two, it is twofold expiation, called â€�tadubhayaâ€�. The dissociation or separation from food, drink, implements that cause sense-indulgence is discriminationâ€�viveka. â€�Vyutsargaâ€� is performance of austerities, such as standing in a place, getting rid of attachment to the body, for a limited time. Penanceâ€�tapa–is fasting, taking less than one’s fill, etc. Discounting the period of penance by a week, a fortnight, a month, etc., is suspensionâ€�cheda. Expelling one from the order for a fortnight, a month, etc., is expulsionâ€�±è²¹°ù¾±³óÄå°ù²¹, another kind of expiation. Reinitiationâ€�³Ü±è²¹²õ³Ù³óÄå±è²¹²ÔÄå–consists in initiation into the order once again.
