The author was a native of the village of Vilvapancha, and the Chief Justice in the court of one of the chiefs of Tirhut. He says his work is founded principally on the Kalpataru, Kamadhenu, Halayudhi, Dharmakosha, Smritisara, Kirtyasagara, Ratnakara, Parijata, Vyavahara, Tilaka, Pradipika, Pradipa and the original texts of Manu and Yajnavalkya with their commentaries.
