Historical Elements in the Matsya Purana

This page relates ‘Lineages of Manu� of the study on the historical elements of the Matsya-purana: one of the eighteen Mahapuranas which are Sanskrit texts that have preserved the cultural heritage, philosophy, religion, geography, etc of ancient India. This Matsyapurana was originally written in 20,000 verses and deals with topics such as architecture, ancient history, polity, religion and philosophy.

Svāyambhuva Manu did hard penance and got a beautiful girl named Ananti as his wife. From her womb Manu gave birth to two sons named Priyavrata and Uttānpāda. Uttānpāda gave birth to four sons named Apasyati, Apasyanta, īپ and Dhruva from daughter of Dharma Sūnṛtān. In connection with Dhruva, Manu’s daughter ٳ󲹲Բ gave birth to a son named Śṣṭ. From Śṣṭ, daughter of Agni Succhayā gave birth to six sons named Kripa, Ripunjaya ṛtٲ, ṛk, ṛktijasa and ṣuṣa. among them, in connection with Ripunjaya, the granddaughter of Brahma and daughter of Vīran, Vīranī gave birth to a son named ṣuṣa Manu. From the womb of princess Nangbata, ṣuṣa Manu gave birth to ten sons named Uru, Puru, ascetic Śatadrumna, Sātyabaka, Habi, Agniṣṭuta, Atritra, Sudrumna, 貹ᾱٲ and Abhimanyu. In connection with Uru, Āgneyīgave birth to six absolute strong sons named Agni, Sumanas, پ, Kratu, Angirasa and Gaya. Daughter of Pitar Sunīthāna gave birth to a son named Ben in connection with Anga. Ben was a very unjust ruler. After Ben’s death, the Brahmins shook his hand and gave birth toa son named ṛt. ṛt had two sons named ԳٲԲ and Habirdhāna. Among them ԳٲԲ gave birth a son named Mārīc from the womb of Śṇḍī. Agni’s daughter Dhisān gave birth to six sons named Prācīnbarhiṣa, Բ, Yama, Śukr Bala and Śܲ in connection with Habirdhāna.[1] From the womb of daughter of seo ṇ�, Prācīnbarhiṣa gave birth to ten sons. The all ten sons were famous as Prachetas.[2] After that the daughter of moon named ṣa became wife of Prachetas. ṣa gave birth to a son named ٲṣa.
