This page relates ‘Common Traits of Vipralambha Nayikas� of the study dealing with the Ashta-Nayikas—a classification of eight kinds of “Heroines� representing the eight emotional states (avastha) employed in the classical Indian dance and performing arts (otherwise known as Natya Shastra). These Ashtanayikas reflect the eight types of romantic relationships and have hence formed the expressive subject of many classical painting, poems and dramatic plays.

Part 12 - Common Traits of Vipralambha Nāyikās
Common activities of վdzٰ첹ṇṭ, ʰṣiٲṛk, Գٲ, ṇḍ and վ:
चिन्तानिःश्वासखेदे� हृद्देहाभिनयेन � �
सखीभि� सह सल्लापैरात्मावस्थवलोकनैः �
ग्लानिदैन्याश्रुपातैश्� रोषस्यागमनेन � �
निर्भूषणमृजात्वे� दुःखेन रुदिते� � �cintāniḥśvāsakhedena hṛddehābhinayena ca |
sakhībhi� saha sallāpairātmāvasthavalokanai� ||
glānidainyāśrupātaiśca roṣasyāgamanena ca |
nirbhūṣaṇamṛjātvena duḥkhena ruditena ca ||
khaṇḍitā vipralabdhā vā kalahāntaritāpi vā |
tathā proṣitakāntā ca bhāvānetān prayojayet ||[1]Heroines like ṇḍ, վ, Գٲ, ʰṣiٲṛk should convey their feelings by anxiety, sighs, lassitude, heart burns, conversations with friends, looking at ones� own condition, weakness, depression, shedding of tears, showing anger, being without ornaments in misery and lamentation.
निःश्वाससंतापसखीवचोभिश्चिन्ताश्रुपातादियुत� सखेद� �
वाच्या प्रलब्धा गतभर्तृकोत्काभिसंधित� खण्डितया सहात्र �niḥśvāsasaṃtāpasakhīvacobhiścintāśrupātādiyutā sakhedā |
vācyā pralabdhā gatabhartṛkotkābhisaṃdhitā khaṇḍitayā sahātra |[2]Heaving sighs, heat, conversing with the friends, anxiety, shedding tears and sorrow are common to վ, ʰṣiٲṛk, վdzٰ첹ṇṭ, Գٲ and ṇḍ.
These activities have found a separate mention as they are indicative of the feeling of separation more than the exact ⾱ ٳ. They are the common traits of the all vipralambha ⾱s. It has not been expounded here, as they have been dealt separately in their appropriate chapters.
