One of the sons of 搁腻惫补峁嘺.

Previous Birth.

This is a story concerning the initial stage of the creation of the Universe. After completing the task of creation 叠谤补丑尘腻, in his pride fell into a sleep. In order to slight 叠谤补丑尘腻 a little, 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 produced two 搁腻办峁�a蝉补蝉 called Madhu and 碍补颈峁璦产丑补 from his ears. Hearing their terrible roar 叠谤补丑尘腻 woke up in fear and fled to 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 seeking refuge. 痴颈峁ａ箛耻 called Madhu and 碍补颈峁璦产丑补 and asked them what boon they would like to ask. They proudly replied that they would grant a boon to 痴颈峁ａ箛耻. In that case 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 wanted them to grant him leave to kill them. They answered: "We will not break our promise about granting the boon. But since our passion for fighting has not been abated, you must fulfil our eager desire." 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 said: "I agree. But let my boon be carried out first. After that I shall see that your wish is properly fulfilled. After your death, one of you will be reborn under the name of Khara and the other under the name of 础迟颈办腻测补. In the 罢谤别迟腻测耻驳补 I shall kill Khara in single combat after allaying his passion for fighting. 尝补办峁�m补峁嘺 who is the incarnation of Ananta will fight with 础迟颈办腻测补 to his full satisfaction and kill him. Thus both of you will get Virakti and Mukti."

After saying this, 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 made the two asuras stand on each of his thighs and killed them with his 厂耻诲补谤艣补苍补 Cakra. They were born again as Khara and 础迟颈办腻测补. (Kamba 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺, Yuddha 碍腻峁囜笉补).

Birth.

There is a story about the birth of 础迟颈办腻测补 in the Yuddha 碍腻峁囜笉补 of Kamba 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺: After his victory over Kubera 搁腻惫补峁嘺 was returning in his 笔耻峁�p补办补 痴颈尘腻苍补. On his way he saw some beautiful Gandharva women playing in the valley of May奴ragiri. Their leader was 颁颈迟谤腻峁単墨, the wife of 颁颈迟谤腻峁単补诲补. 搁腻惫补峁嘺 seduced her and had a secret union with her. At once she became pregnant and gave birth to a dazzlingly bright baby. The mother handed over the child to 搁腻惫补峁嘺 and returned to the world of the Gandharvas. 搁腻惫补峁嘺, in his paternal love, took the child into the 痴颈尘腻苍补 and proceeded. On the way, the 痴颈尘腻苍补 knocked against a mountain peak and the baby was thrown overboard and fell in the forest. 搁腻惫补峁嘺 stopped the 痴颈尘腻苍补 and made a search for the baby in the forest. He found the child without the slightest injury, smiling and lying on a flat rock in the deep woods. He failed in his attempt to take it up even though he used ten of his hands. The child began to grow steadily in size. Then he tried again to lift the baby up using all his twenty arms. The boy, who had by this time grown into enormous size, suddenly sprang up and getting into the 痴颈尘腻苍补 took his seat in it. 搁腻惫补峁嘺 gave him the name 础迟颈办腻测补. On his arrival in 尝补峁卥腻, he presented him as adopted son to the barren Dhanyam膩l膩. 础迟颈办腻测补 was brought up by Dhanyam膩l膩.

The Boons.

础迟颈办腻测补 went to 骋辞办补谤峁嘺 and did penance to please 叠谤补丑尘腻. 叠谤补丑尘腻 appeared, but being fully absorbed in 厂补尘腻诲丑颈, 础迟颈办腻测补 was not aware of his presence. Even his life-breath had been stopped. 叠谤补丑尘腻, by his power, instilled life-breath into him and restored him to consciousness. He granted 础迟颈办腻测补 all the boons he asked for. They were three in number. The first was the gift of 叠谤补丑尘腻stra which could smash anyone. The second was the gift of an armour which was unassailable by anyone. The third was absence of thirst, desire and other cravings.

Education.

础迟颈办腻测补 went to 碍补颈濒腻蝉补 and received his education from 艢颈惫补. He learnt all the sciences, Arts, 艢谤耻迟颈, 厂尘峁泃颈 etc. from there. On the completion of his course he asked what 骋耻谤耻诲补办峁�i峁嚹� he should pay. 艢颈惫补 made him promise that he would never practise Black magic. Pleased with him, 艢颈惫补 awarded him the 笔腻艣耻辫补迟腻蝉迟谤补.

Victory in Battle.

础迟颈办腻测补 had an uncle, a 搁腻办峁�a蝉补 named Candra. Once he was defeated by Indra. It was at this time of chagrin that he came to know that 础迟颈办腻测补 had reached 尝补峁卥腻 with the 笔腻艣耻辫补迟腻蝉迟谤补. Candra 搁腻办峁�a蝉补 ordered 础迟颈办腻测补 to bring Indra as a captive. 础迟颈办腻测补 went to Svarga (Heaven) and began a war with Indra. 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 who came to help Indra used his 厂耻诲补谤艣补苍补 cakra. 础迟颈办腻测补 shot his 笔腻艣耻辫补迟腻蝉迟谤补. Knowing 础迟颈办腻测补鈥檚 history well, 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 brought the battle to a close. Both parties accepted the position that Devendra had lost the battle and 础迟颈办腻测补 had won.

Death.

In the 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺 battle 础迟颈办腻测补 fought on the side of 搁腻惫补峁嘺. After a most terrible conflict, 尝补办峁�m补峁嘺 killed 础迟颈办腻测补. (Kamba 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺, Yuddha 碍腻峁囜笉补).
