Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (manubh膩峁a):
鈥�Senior castes鈥欌�擜ll castes other than 艢奴诲谤补蝉. If they perform the prescribed expiatory penances, there is to be no branding; and their punishment shall consist of the 鈥榟ighest amercement;鈥� that is they should be made to pay a thousand 鈥�辫补峁嘺蝉.鈥欌�� (240)
