: Wikisource: Ashtavakra GitaԻ岹 (स्वच्छन्दचारिन�) refers to “one who (outwardly) wanders about as he pleases� (like a madman), according to the Aṣṭāvakragītā (5th century BC), an ancient text on spirituality dealing with Advaita-Vedānta topics.—Accordingly, [as Janaka says to Aṣṭavakra]: “[...] Realising my supreme self-nature in the Person of the Witness, the Lord, and the state of desirelessness in bondage or liberation, I feel no inclination for liberation. The various states of one who is empty of uncertainty within, and who outwardly wanders about as he pleases (Ի岹) [antarvikalpaśūnyasya bahi� svacchandacāriṇa�] like a madman, can only be known by someone in the same condition�.
