This page relates 鈥楾he river Sindhu in the Puranas鈥� of the study on the rivers in ancient India as reflected in the Vedic and Puranic texts. 7. The river Sindhu in the 笔耻谤腻峁嘺蝉
The river Sindhu is assumed to be the branch of the heavenly 骋补峁単腻 in the 笔耻谤腻峁嘺蝉.The heavenly 骋补峁単腻 fell on the earth in the lake Bindu by the efforts of 叠丑补驳墨谤补迟丑补. After that it had six channels鈥攖hree channels flowed to the east and three to the west. The rivers which flowed to the east were Hl膩d墨n墨, 笔腻惫补苍墨 and 狈补濒颈苍墨. The three rivers Sucasuk峁s, 厂墨迟腻 and Sindhu flowed to the west. This seventh branch followed 叠丑腻驳墨谤补迟丑补 and flowed to 笔腻迟腻濒补 to perform obsequies to the sons of Sagara.[1] In the beginning, the river Sindhu is a united flow of two streams, rising in the 碍补颈濒腻蝉补 Mountain. It flows north-west at length and turns southwards below the Karakoram range and falls into the Arabian Sea.[2]
Sindhu is one of the three branches of the 骋补峁単腻 from the Pariy膩tr膩 hill flowing to the north.[3]
