28 Rajanirghanta "is the work of Narahari Paudita, who states himself to be descended from a family of Kashmirian Brahmans; from the frequent occurrence of Dakshini terms in explanation of his Sanskrit text, it is inferred, however, that he was an inhabitant of the south of India. Besides the medical works which he refers to, he comprises amongst his authorities Amara, Halayudha and the Visvaprakasa, and by his stopping at the latter, it appears probable that he wrote during the interval between the appearance of that work and the Medini, or some time in the twelfth or thirteenth century. The compilation is almost wholly limited to the Materia Medica of Hindu physicians, or the synonyms and properties of various vegetable and mineral products considered to possess medicinal virtue."
