should be neglected.
In the early days each village was administrated by the
society. It had been called by various names such as emergency
council, society and service society. They were engaged in
public matters related to the progress of village, punishing
offenders, settling disputes and helping individuals jointly.
Exept a few matters all others were under the complete
responsibility of village society. Such a village is described as
by sri.T.K.Krishnamenon, “the ancient village administration
was in the form of aristocracy. Villagers or the representatives
carried on village administration and social security. Temples,
kaḷaries and service society were the prominent among them'

Today even though the functioning of service society is not so
broad, as in olden days, it is working in various forms in our
country.
