and six eyes. 15 He crushed Arbuda with his foot.
The epithets, Maghav膩n, 艢atakratu岣�, Vajri, V峁泃峁沨膩, S奴ra岣�,
Harivan, V峁涐梗膩, V峁涐梗abha岣ツ� characterize Indra for more than hundred
times each; and he is called Deva岣�, Adrivat, Ugra, Girv峁嚹�, Puruh奴ta岣�,
Purustu-Savi峁ａ弓ha岣�, Vasu, Vajraha峁ａ弓岣�, Vidv膩n, Savdh膩v膩n, Somap膩岣�,
Satpati岣�, for about fifty times along with other epithets that reveal
the nature of Indra. The epithet that is singularly used for Indra, is
艢atakratu, one endowed with hundred powers. Infact, Indra stands
for the supreme force.
Indr膩峁噄 repeatedly mentioned in the Veda as the wife of Indra.
The 86th hymn of the tenth Mandala of the 峁歡veda is devoted to her
delineation, that is characterized by an imposition of the qualities of
Indra over her personality. She is called Surapatni, the wife of the
strong one. The other name of Indra's wife is Saci that denotes action
and Indra is lord of action.
The name of Indra's mother is Savasi, 16 one who is endowed with
strength. 艢avasi addresses Indra by the vocative 鈥榩utra'. 17
