The importance of 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补 濒颈峁単补 temple was being written in Skanda mythology. It is also one of the twelve Jyotir濒颈峁単补 temples. 搁腻尘补苍腻迟丑补蝉惫腻尘墨 Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to God 艢颈惫补 located on 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补峁� island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. This Jyotir濒颈峁単补 was being established by Sri Ramachandra himself. The 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补 厂惫腻尘墨 [Rameshwar Swami] temple was situated 1000ft length and 650ft breadth and at a height of 150ft. It is one of 274 Paadal Petra Sthalams, where the three of the most revered nayanars (艢aivite saints), appar, sundarar and tirugnana sambandar, have glorified the temple with their songs.

History

The temple was expanded during the 12^th century by Pandya Dynasty, and its principal shrines sanctum were renovated by jayaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan of the Jaffna kingdom. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India. The temple is located in 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补峁� considered a holy pilgrimage site for 艢aivites, 痴补颈峁ａ箛补惫颈迟别蝉 and Smarthas.

The presiding deity, the 尝颈峁単补峁� of 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补 (艢颈惫补), was established and worshiped by 搁腻尘补 before crossing his bridge to 尝补峁卥腻. In 鈥�Trethayuga鈥� after killing R膩va峁嚹乻ura, Sri 搁腻尘补 with his wife 厂墨迟腻 came 鈥�Gandhamadhana鈥� mountain by 鈥�笔耻峁�p补办补 惫颈尘腻苍补鈥�. The saints adviced Sri Rama that, on killing 搁腻惫补峁嘺 who was the son of Pulasthya Brahma he will be sinned. So to get our of that sin, they adviced him to established a 艢颈惫补濒颈峁単补 and should worship it so that all sins will be cleared.

Then 艢谤墨谤腻尘补 ordered Hanuman to get a 艢颈惫补濒颈峁単补 from 碍补颈濒腻蝉补峁�. Then Hanuman stated his journey towards 碍补颈濒补蝉腻峁�. Then Hanuman stated his journey towards 碍补颈濒腻蝉补峁�. But at that time the establishment programme was completed. Thus Hanuman felt very sad. Then 搁腻尘补 tried to convinced him but he cannot able to take out hanuman from sorrow.

On hearing that words of 艢谤墨谤腻尘补, 贬补苍耻尘腻苍 became very happy and went to uproot the 艢颈惫补濒颈峁単补. But even though it was made of mud he cannot lift it and become unconscious. Then 艢谤墨谤腻尘补 went to Hanuman and awaked him and said 鈥渕y 贬补苍耻尘腻苍, as this idol was established no one can lift it. The idol established by 艢谤墨谤腻尘补 was called 鈥�搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补鈥� and the idol brought by 贬补苍耻尘腻苍 was called 贬补苍耻尘补诲丑别别艣惫补谤补鈥� and became very famous.

The primary deity of the temple is 搁腻尘别艣惫补谤补 (艢颈惫补) in the from of 濒颈峁単补m. There are two 濒颈峁単补mas inside the sanctum鈥搊ne built by 搁腻尘补, from sand, residing as the main deity, 搁腻尘补濒颈峁単补峁� and the one brought by 贬补苍耻尘腻苍 from 办补颈濒腻蝉补 called Vi艣va濒颈峁単补m. 搁腻尘补 instructed that the Vi艣va濒颈峁単补峁� should be worshipped first since it was brought by 贬补苍耻尘腻苍-the tradition continues even today.
