Contents of the Gopatha-brāhmaṇa of the Atharvaveda

The Gopatha ṇa is the only ṇa that belongs to the Atharvaveda. In its modern part the Gopatha ṇa follows ղԲūٰ. It quotes from the earlier ṇas like the Aitareya ṇa, the Kauṣitaki ṇa, the Śatapatha ṇa, the Sadviṃsa ṇa and others. Therefore, it is said that this ṇa is exterior to 2000 B.C. The Gopatha ṇa glorifies the Atharvaveda and the ṇa priest, who according to this ṇa should be expert in the Atharvaveda.
The Gopatha ṇa is extensively divided in to Purva Gopatha and Uttara Gopatha. The Purva Gopatha contains some original matters like (cosmogony, duties of a Vedic scholar and others). The Uttara Gopatha deals with the Śܳٲ Sacrifices. The former one consists of 135 ṇḍ grouped under five ṻ첹, and the latter one has 123 ṇḍ grouped under six ṻ첹. This ṇa is often regarded as a late composition, borrowing freely from other ṇas. This ṇa describes the significance of the Atharvaveda. It also mentions that �� have originate from the Atharvaveda.
A brief description of this ṇa is enumerated below:
ʳܰ:
First ʰṻ첹–T first ʰṻ첹 deals with the description of and the greatness of goddess ⲹٰ.
Second ʰṻ첹–T second ʰṻ첹 describes the discipline of Celibacy.
Third ʰṻ첹–Duties of four Ṛt첹 and the stories relating to them found in the third ʰṻ첹.
Fourth ʰṻ첹–T Initiation of Ṛt첹 described in the fourth ʰṻ첹.
Fifth ʰṻ첹–In the fifth ʰṻ첹 description of Prathama Samvatsara sacrifice, ԲԲ, Purnāhuti, Agnihotra, Darśapaurnamāsa, ٳܰⲹ, ʲśܲԻ, Ծṣṭdz, Ჹūⲹ, Ჹⲹ, ś, ʳܰṣa, Sarvamedha sacrifices are found.
ٳٲ:
First ʰṻ첹–In the ٳٲ the first ʰṻ첹 deals with the description of various sacrifices like Rudra’s struggle for oblation, meat offering in the sacrifices and others.
Second and third ʰṻ첹–T second and the third ʰṻ첹 deals with the �ṣa� and �ᾱ� description.
Last three ʰṻ첹s–T last three ʰṻ첹s deals with the subject matter which are to be performed at morning, afternoon and evening time during , Ukthya and ṣm첹.
This ṇa gives derivative interpretation of various Vedic terms like ղṇa, Angira and others. Therefore, it plays an important role to show its contribution to the science of linguistics. As a whole, the Gopatha ṇa is extensive one in various disciplines. No commentary of this work is available. The ṇa literature that has come down to us only represents a small part of the ṇa literature as a whole. There are many ṇas which are not available to us, such as�Caraka, Ahvaraka, Satyāyana, , Haridravika and many others.
