This page relates 鈥榃omen in the Field of Education鈥� of the study on the Markandeya Purana, one of the oldest of the eigtheen Mahapuranas preserving the history, civilisation, culture and traditions of ancient India. The Markandeyapurana commences with the questions raised by Rishi Jaimini (a pupil of Vyasa), who approaches the sage Markandeya with doubts related to the Mahabharata. Women in the Field of Education

Education for women is shown from the Vedic times. But due to child marriages and lack of interest in education among the women, their education remained incomplete. Some references of educated ladies have been found in the 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补辫耻谤腻峁嘺. In the context of describing creation of the Rudras sage 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补 mentions the name of two educated ladies, namely, 惭别苍腻 and 顿丑腻谤颈峁嚹� by name who are Brahmav膩din墨s.[1]

Some 惫颈诲测腻蝉 are imparted to some women as referred to in the 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补辫耻谤腻峁嘺. These are:

  1. 辫补诲尘颈苍墨惫颈诲测腻,
  2. 蝉补谤惫补产丑奴迟补谤耻迟补惫颈诲测腻,
  3. 补蝉迟谤补驳谤腻尘补丑峁沝补测补惫颈诲测 and
  4. 蝉惫别办肠丑腻肠腻谤补惫颈诲测腻 etc.

By the power of 辫补诲尘颈苍墨惫颈诲测腻 one can achieve wealth according to his desire. In the 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补辫耻谤腻峁嘺 this 惫颈诲测腻 is found to be imparted by 叠丑补驳补惫补迟墨 笔补谤惫补迟墨 to 碍补濒腻惫补迟墨. Through this 惫颈诲测腻 碍补濒腻惫补迟墨 became able to be the wife of 厂惫腻谤辞肠颈蝉 and all the Nidhis gave her welth according to her desire.[2] By the 蝉补谤惫补产丑奴迟补谤耻迟补惫颈诲测腻 one can understand the sound of different animals.[3]

In the 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补辫耻谤腻峁嘺 vivabhavar墨, the daughter of 惭补苍诲腻谤补 has given it to 厂惫腻谤辞肠颈蝉.[4] Astragr膩mah峁沝aya惫颈诲测腻 is applied for defeating the enemies. The 惭腻谤办补峁囜笉别测补辫耻谤腻峁嘺 provids one example of this 惫颈诲测腻 incase of Manorama, a 惫颈诲测腻dhari who offers this 惫颈诲测腻 to 厂惫腻谤辞肠颈蝉 for her peotection from the 搁补办峁蝉补蝉.[5] Next 惫颈诲测腻 is 蝉惫别办肠丑腻肠腻谤补惫颈诲测腻. By the power of this 惫颈诲测腻 one can assume the desiring form. In this 笔耻谤腻峁嘺 it is stated that after the killing 碍补峁卥补, his brother Kandhara killed Vidyutr奴pa. Then his wife, 惭补诲补苍颈办腻, capable of assuming different forms, on reaching the house of Kandhara took a form of 骋补谤耻岣峚 stayed at his house.[6]
