Kavyamimamsa of Rajasekhara (Study)

This page relates ‘Alamkara (2): Shlesha-Yamaka� of the study on the Kavyamimamsa of Rajasekhara: a poetical encyclopedia from the 9th century dealing with the ancient Indian science of poetics and rhetoric (also know as alankara-shastra). The Kavya-mimamsa is written in eighteen chapters representing an educational framework for the poet (kavi) and instructs him in the science of applied poetics for the sake of making literature and poetry (kavya).
Alaṃkāra (2): Śṣa-Yamaka
In the ancient Sanskrit Poetics, all the famous scholars of Bharata, 峾, ٲṇḍ and Vāmaṇa etc. described about the Yamaka ṃk. ܻṭa also discusses Śṣa-Yamaka with fifty-eight stanzas in his 屹ṃk (of ܻṭa) There he gives its eight divisions. But in the first time of history of Sanskrit Poetics 屹īⲹ Ჹś elaborately discusses the Śṣa and Yamaka to the view of ṇa (borrowing).
In the Ś岹-ṇa chapter of Kāvyamīmāṃsā, Ჹś says about ancient Āⲹ view as:
�tatraikapadaṇa� na doṣāya� iti 峦 |
-Kāvyamīmāṃsā of Ჹś: Ch-XI, Pp- 56
Means:
“The borrowing of one word cannot be called a fault.�
But Ჹś does not agree with this concept and says his own views as:
�anyatra dvayarthapadāt� iti 屹īⲹ� |
-Kāvyamīmāṃsā of Ჹś: Ch-XI, Pp- 56
Means:
“borrowing of word which has two meanings is certainly not a fault, without this borrowing is under fault.�
