. 6. As regards completeness and incompleteness it is also divided in two ways as pūrṇa and apūrṇa. These can be further sub-divided into two varieties like samadhruva and visamadhruva, Kallinātha further opines that since caryāprabandha mainly depends on two limbs like pada and tāla, it is called tärāvalī and it has three dhātu to its credit, viz. Udgrāha, Dhruva and Ābhoga. Not only SR but other works on music proved that the songs of Gg come under the category of caryaprabandha. But with the passage of time these songs which were being sung as caryā songs had to be put under classification of other modes and systems of music. According to the musical trend in the 12th and 13th centuries most of the songs of Gg may be attributed to the category of caryā songs. 111 Like the Buddhist caryā songs the songs of Jayadeva has also an internal spiritual appeal beyond their outward erotic connotations 112. 2.7.5 The Raga-s (Tunes) used in the Gg. The word rāga has its origin in the Sanskrit root rañj in the sense of colouring. Science has already established that affinity exists between sound waves and colour-waves and that a note of a particular frequency can produce a particular colour. So no better name than rāga could have been given to a melodic pattern composed of notes or svara-s which undoubtedly colour at least the mind of the listener 113.
