A critic says that Gitagovinda is a Sanskrit poem and there is no element of gitinatya in Sanskrit. The intention of Sanskrit poetics was meant for the wise only. So there is no reason to rename the Gitagovinda as a drama. We should accept the Gitagovinda as a lyrical poem in which the presence of dramatism is fortunate 79. Here, the description of the love play of Radha and Krsna is one way directed and it has no rise and fall like other dramatic stories of Sanskrit poetics. But the touch of dramaticism is clear in the Gitagovinda In his first canto the closeness of Krsna with the cowherd women and the jealous feeling of Radha provides the first dramatic scene. Here the indication for the progress of drama is found. In the second and third canto the thought of Krsna is expressed and it presents deep emotion of the dramatic story. In the further cantos the difficulty of drama is solved by the scenes like sending of an emissary, the false anger of Radha and the loyalty of Krsna in front of Radha 80. Although dramaticism is presented in Gitagovinda But it is not sufficient to be a successfull drama from all sides. The characters are Radha, Krsna and some cowherdess women. The hero and heroine has no miracle action but their all activities are love oriented 81. Regarding the dialogue, the style and language should be suitable for the character as per his age, education, social condition, occupation etc. But except the age we are not able to know 78. anything about the characters of Gitagovinda 82. Here is no message for future life, so it has no permanent effect on the people. Some dramatic scenes may be created from this poem. The historical evidences found otherwise prove that the art of drama was fully developed during the time of Jayadeva33.
