chapter II Major goddesses Trihāyani-- Manifestation in every Age. 123 The Devi Bhagavata Purāṇa mentions about the different
incarnations of the goddesses Lak Ahm¢ 190. It states that the goddess
Laksmi manifested in different ages for the welfare of humanity.
� In the Satyayuga, the goddess incarnated as the daughter of
ś屹Ჹ.
� In the Tretayuga, she incarnated as Sītā the daughter of Janaka.
� In the Dvaparayuga Svargalakṣmi incarnated as Draupadi the
daughter of Drupada and became the wife of the Pandavas.
Since Lakṣmi appeared in the three Yuga's is known as 'Trihāyani'.
The forms of Sītā and Draupadi are very popular among the
masses. They are offered worship and revered by the people. One
thing which is common is that both were princess and became queens.
Draupadi is stated to have been produced from the fire191.
She as such represents the fire which is symbolic of chastecity and
femininity. Draupadi is worshipped in Tamilnadu among the masses
as an independent goddess. Draupadi is associated with the five
Pandavs as their common wife. Draupadi is worshipped as a symbol
of chastity.
