One of the famous 狈腻驳补蝉 (serpents).

Birth.

The uragas and n膩gas (serpents) were born to 笔谤补箩腻辫补迟颈 碍补艣测补辫补 by his wife 碍补诲谤奴. 痴腻蝉耻办颈, the eldest son of 碍补诲谤奴 spent his childhood with his parents.

Difference of opinion.

痴颈苍补迟腻 and 碍补诲谤奴 staked on the colour of the tail of Uccai艣艣ravas (A horse obtained at the churning of the sea of Milk. To win the stake, 碍补诲谤奴 asked her sons to hang on the tail of Uccai艣艣ravas as black hairs. But the truthful 痴腻蝉耻办颈 was not prepared to do so. 碍补诲谤奴 cursed 痴腻蝉耻办颈 and the others who sided with him. From that day onwards 痴腻蝉耻办颈 and those who were cursed, separated from their mother and formed into a serpent group. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 膧诲颈 Parva, Chapters 37 and 48)

The length of 痴腻蝉耻办颈.

The Devas and the asuras decided to get 础尘峁泃补 (Ambrosia鈥攖he celestial honey of immortalily) by churning the sea of milk. The Devas went to bring Mandara-mountain, to be used as the churning rod. Their attempt was futile. The asuras made a trial with the same result. The 叠丑奴迟补驳补峁嘺蝉 (Guards) of 艢颈惫补 also made a vain attempt. On the instruction of 痴颈峁ａ箛耻, 骋补谤耻岣峚 went and brought the mountain as easily as an eagle takes away a frog. Now 痴腻蝉耻办颈 should be brought. The Devas and Gandharvas failed in that attempt also. 骋补谤耻岣峚 who was haughty of his strength and speed, went to the city of the n膩gas (serpents) and requested 痴腻蝉耻办颈 to come to the sea of Milk. 痴腻蝉耻办颈 replied that if the matter was so urgent he had no objection for being carried to that place. He took the middle part of 痴腻蝉耻办颈 in his beak and flew up higher and higher and reached beyond the horizon. Still the lower half of 痴腻蝉耻办颈 was lying on the ground. So he took 痴腻蝉耻办颈 in his beak as folded in two. Still the result was the same. 骋补谤耻岣峚 became aware of the impossibility of carrying 痴腻蝉耻办颈 and returned, ashamed and disappointed. 痴颈峁ａ箛耻 rebuked him for his arrogance. After this, 艢颈惫补 stretched his hand to 笔腻迟腻濒补. 痴腻蝉耻办颈 became a small bangle on that hand. Thus 痴腻蝉耻办颈 was brought to the shore of the sea of Milk. (Kamba 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺, Yuddha 碍腻峁囜笉补).

Other details.

(i) For the safety and protection of the 狈腻驳补蝉 (serpents) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 gave his sister 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻 as wife to the hermit 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻. (See under 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻).

(ii) The n膩gas anointed 痴腻蝉耻办颈 as their King. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 膧诲颈 Parva, D膩k峁�i峁嚹乼yap膩峁環a, Chapter 36).

(iii) When 痴腻蝉耻办颈 saw the serpents, born of his family, falling into the sacrificial fire of Janamejaya and dying in large numbers, he sent his nephew 膧蝉迟墨办补 to find out a way to rescue the perishing n膩gas. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 膧诲颈 Parva, Chapter 53, Stanza 20).

(iv) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 participated in the birth festival of Arjuna. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 膧诲颈 Parva, Chapter 122, Stanza 71).

(v) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 advised the 狈腻驳补蝉 to give the divine juice to 叠丑墨尘补蝉别苍补, in accordance with the request of 膧谤测补办补. (See under 叠丑墨尘补蝉别苍补).

(vi) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 stays in the palace of 痴补谤耻峁嘺 worshipping him. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 厂补产丑腻 Parva, Chapter 9, Stanza 8).

(vii) Arjuna once allured the sister of 痴腻蝉耻办颈. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 痴颈谤腻峁璦 Parva, Chapter 2, Slanza 14).

(viii) In Tripuradahana (the burning of Tripura) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 acted as the bow-string of 艢颈惫补 and as the axle of his chariot. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 碍补谤峁嘺 Parva, Chapter 34, Stanza 22).

(ix) In the fight between Arjuna and 碍补谤峁嘺, 痴腻蝉耻办颈 was a well-wisher of Arjuna. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 碍补谤峁嘺 Parva, Chapter 87, Stanza 43).

(x) The Devas anointed 痴腻蝉耻办颈 as the King of the 狈腻驳补蝉. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 艢补濒测补 Parva, Chapter 37, Stanza 30).

(xi) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 gave 厂耻产谤补丑尘补峁噛补 two followers named Jaya and 惭补丑腻箩补测补. (艢补濒测补 Parva, Chapter 45, Verse 52).

(xii) 痴腻蝉耻办颈 is one of the seven n膩gas which hold up the earth. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 础苍耻艣腻蝉补苍补 Parva, Chapter 150, Stanza 41).

(xiii) When Balabhadrar膩ma went to 笔腻迟腻濒补 after his death, 痴腻蝉耻办颈 had gone there to receive him. (惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 Mausala Parva, Chapter 4, Stanza 15).

(xiv) Once 痴腻蝉耻办颈 and 痴腻测耻 tried to find out who was the more powerful of the two, in consequence of which contest Mount 罢谤颈办奴峁璦 was broken from the vicinity of 惭补丑腻尘别谤耻 and was thrown into the southern Sea. (See under 罢谤颈办奴峁璦).

(xv) Words such as N膩gar膩峁�, 狈腻驳补谤腻箩补, 狈腻驳别苍诲谤补, Pannaga, Pannagar膩峁�, Sarpar膩ja, and so on are used as synonyms of 痴腻蝉耻办颈 in 惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补.
