Story of ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹
The son born to god Fire by his wife ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²ÔÄå. (³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²ÔÄå was the daughter of Duryodhana (±·Ä«±ô²¹) of the dynasty of ±õ°ìá¹£vÄå°ì³Ü. For the story of her marriage see under ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²ÔÄå). ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹, the son of Fire, married °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« the daughter of °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹Äå²Ô. That story is given below:â€
°¿²µ³ó²¹±¹Äå²Ô had two children a daughter named °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« and a son named Ogharatha. °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹Äå²Ô gave his daughter in marriage to ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ who was wise and learned. The couple lived in °³Ü°ù³Ü°ìá¹£e³Ù°ù²¹. Once ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ said to °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« thus:â€ "You should honour guests in all ways. If it is the desire of a guest, you should not draw back from giving even your body. Whether I am present here or not a guest should not be insulted." °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« promised to obey the order of her husband to the letter. ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ had been trying to become victorious over ²Ñá¹›t²â³Ü (Death) and so Death had been waiting to find out some vulnerable point in ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹â€™s life. While ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ had gone to cut firewood, a brahmin entered the hermitage and said to °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ«:â€ "If you do observe the duties of a house-holder show hospitality to me." Hearing this, °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« welcomed the brahmin and performed the usual hospitality and asked him "What shall I do for you?" "Give yourself to me", was the answer. Seeing that the guest was not contented with the usual hospitalities and remembering the words of her husband, °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« gave herself to the guest. Both of them entered the interior of the hermitage. At this moment Sudar ana returned with firewood, and looked for °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« and called her aloud, several times. He got no reply. Then the Brahmin who was lying inside called out:â€"Hei! Son of Fire! A guest has come. Your wife showed all kinds of hospitality. But I was not contented with them. Now she is offering herself to me."
These words did not seem to make any change in ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹. Dharmadeva was much pleased, as ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ had come out victorious in all these tests. He came out and appeared in his own form and blessed ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹. Due to the blessing of Dharmadeva, half of the body of °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« flowed as the river °¿²µ³ó²¹±¹²¹³ÙÄ« and the other half was dissolved in the soul of her husband. ³§³Ü»å²¹°ùÅ›²¹²Ô²¹ thus earned victory over ²Ñá¹›t²â³Ü and obtained prosperity.
