Story of Իṇ

Wife of Indra (Śī).

Genealogy.

Descended from վṣṇ thus: վṣṇśⲹ貹ʳܱdz—Ś (Իṇ). ʳܱdz was an asura born to śⲹ貹 by his wife Danu. Indra married Śī, the daughter of ʳܱdz, and hence Śī is called Իṇ also. She is called ʲܱdzī also as she was the daughter of ʳܱdz.

Իṇ and Śūrapadma.

An Asura called Śūrapadma once coveted Իṇ. He deputed his men to fetch Śī somehow or other to him. Hearing about this, Indra, keeping Իṇ with him, went to and stayed in the Chīyāli temple in ṅkṇaś, and afterwards Indra went to Mount after asking Ś to guard Իṇ. During Indra’s absence Ajāmukhī, sister of Śūrapadma met Իṇ and induced her to become Śūrapadma’s wife. Իṇ refused. Ultimately Indra returned and took Իṇ back to Devaloka.

Իṇ and Nahuṣa.

Իṇ and ñī.

Ѳٲ says that ñī was a partial incarnation of Իṇ. (See under ñī). A part of Śī was born in the family of Drupada as ٰܱ貹ī, viz. ñī. (Ѳٲ Ādi Parva, Chapter 67).

(1) Իṇ once went to the assembly of and worshipped him. (Ѳٲ Parva, Chapter 11, Verse 42).

(2) When once ٲⲹ峾 came to Devaloka with Śrī ṛṣṇa, Իṇ conducted her to Aditi, mother of the Devas. (Ѳٲ Parva, Chapter 36).

(3) Śī also was present at the birth of ܲ󳾲ṇy. (Ѳٲ Śⲹ Parva, Chapter 46, Verse 13).

(4) Իṇ and Arjuna. (See under Arjuna).
