17. Here the Self, being free from errrors and thus fit to study the Vedas, sees the very basis of the Vedas, their pure form.
Notes:
颁丑补苍诲补蝉测补岣�. This word can be explained according to P. 4. 4. 98: 鈥�Tatra 蝉腻诲丑耻岣�鈥�. It would then mean 鈥榝it in regard to the Chandas, i.e. fit to study it or protect it. V峁�, however, explains it thus: Chanda艣ya岣� iti. Chandas膩m 蝉补尘奴丑补岣�, sam奴h膩rthe 补耻辫补蝉补峁僰丑测腻苍颈办补岣� 迟补诲诲丑颈迟补岣�. He has probably in mind P. 4. 2. 42 according to which the suffix yan is added to words in tire sense of collection.
