Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (manubh膩峁a):
Some people take the 鈥榬epentance鈥� to extend up to the term 鈥榬enunciation.鈥� But this is not light; as 鈥�repentance鈥� consists in mental depression, while 鈥�renunciation鈥� is in the form of the resolution 鈥榮uch an act shall not be done again鈥�; and that the two are distinct acts is shown by the past-participial affix 鈥�办迟惫腻鈥� in 鈥�santapya鈥欌�斺�榓fter one has repented, then comes the renunciation.鈥�
Thus then the sense is鈥斺�楲ike the expiation, the sinner should also do (a) the confession, (b) the repentance and the renunciation.
