: archive.org: The Elephant Lore of the Hindusղⲹṣa (व्याध्यौषध) refers to “medicine for the sickness� (of elephants), according to the 15th century ٲṅgī composed by Nīlakaṇṭha in 263 Sanskrit verses, dealing with elephantology in ancient India, focusing on the science of management and treatment of elephants.—[Cf. chapter 11, “On the keeping of elephants and their daily and seasonal regimen”]: �14. But of medicine for sickness (ⲹṣa), for one in a middling period of life (as in preceding verse) 20 palas (ca. one kilogram) every day shall be the measure, to be measured out with careful determination ; while 2 prasthas (= one-half ḍh첹, ½ pints) of ghee shall be the daily measure ; these measures are to be increased or diminished according to the (varying) strength (of the animal)�.
