: Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries: Edgerton Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit DictionaryUdyojayati (उद्योजयत).(?) (see also s.v. udyoṭita), according to Bendall and Rouse, Śṣāsܳⲹ Transl. 57 note 1, = Pali uyyojeti, dismisses, sends away: Śṣāsܳⲹ 56.2 yāvad dhārmaśravaṇikāś codyojayitavyā parṣanmaṇḍala parisaṃsthāpayitav- yam; but Tibetan brtson par ḥgyur, = (to be) made zealous, the regular Sanskrit meaning; yāvad can be understood as up to the point (in the text where it is said), thus fitting this meaning, and B. and R.'s interpretation seems implausible. [Page132-a+ 71] They assume the same meaning for Ѳ屹ٳ iii.141.12 (bhagavān …asuranayutāni…samyaksaṃbodhīye vyākaritvā bahūni ca prāṇisahasrāṇi āryadharmeṣu pratiṣṭhāpayitvā rājāna śuddhodana ca) saparivāra ca udyojaye; but here too this verb (mss. udyojeya or °ya) may well mean aroused, inspired, as regularly in Sanskrit; this accords well with the preceding parts of the sentence, and seems more natural than dismissed (tho Ś. and his followers did in fact depart, as the next sentence says).
Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम (ṃsṛt), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
