ʲṛc (परिपृच्छ�) refers to “asking a question�, according to Mahāprajñāpāramitāśāstra (chapter 41).—Accordingly, “[Digression on a case brought against the Buddha; B. The defense].—[7. Silence on the Fourteen Difficult Questions].—The Buddha did not answer fourteen difficult questions.—The Buddha has four ways of answering (첹ṇa): i) answering in a categorical manner; ii) answering by distinguishing; iii) answering by asking a question (貹ṛc-첹ṇa); iv) answering by not replying. Now these fourteen difficult questions had to be answered by not replying. [...]�.
