Vastushastra (architecture)
: McGill: The architectural theory of the Mānasāraʲīṣaṇa (परीक्षण, “examination).—In the Mānasāra, several words denote the synthetic and analytic seeing of the sthapati in the course of making the temple and image. The most commonly occurring are ṣaṇa, 貹īṣaṇa and īṣaṇa. They conjoin respectively the prefixes pra, “before, in front of, pari, “around, and vi, “apart, asunder to ī, “to see.
The word in the text for these tests (ūṃg) is parīṣa, examination. In this case, the prefix pari, “around, connotes, again, that the process is more phenomenological than scientific.

Vastushastra (वास्तुशास्त्, vāstuśāstra) refers to the ancient Indian science (shastra) of architecture (vastu), dealing with topics such architecture, sculpture, town-building, fort building and various other constructions. Vastu also deals with the philosophy of the architectural relation with the cosmic universe.

This section covers the skills and profiencies of the Kalas (“performing arts) and Shastras (“sciences) involving ancient Indian traditions of sports, games, arts, entertainment, love-making and other means of wordly enjoyments. Traditionally these topics were dealt with in Sanskrit treatises explaing the philosophy and the justification of enjoying the pleasures of the senses.
Shilpashastra (iconography)
: archive.org: Catalogue of Pancaratra Agama Texts (shilpa)ʲīṣaṇa (परीक्षण) refers to “selecting (the proper time), as discussed in chapter 33 of the Ādikāṇḍa of the Ჹⲹśīṣaṃh: a large Pāñcarātra Āgama consisting of roughly 6500 verses dealing primarily with architecture, temple-building and consecration rituals and iconography.—Description of the chapter [kāla-貹īṣaṇa]: There are five kinds of پṣṭ-rituals of installation (they are not named). The term itself refers to placing the icon on its pedestal. This action is a symbolization of the Lord (the arca-icon) coming together with Śrī (śپ, ṛt, the base) (1b-3). The rules for installing an icon should be drawn from the same source as were the rules used for making the icon. Then comes the listing of auspicious months, days, times etc. for commencing پṣṭ-rites (4-22).

Shilpashastra (शिल्पशास्त्र, śilpaśāstra) represents the ancient Indian science (shastra) of creative arts (shilpa) such as sculpture, iconography and painting. Closely related to Vastushastra (architecture), they often share the same literature.
