Jyotisha (astronomy and astrology)
: academia.edu: Tessitori Collection I (astronomy)°²¹°ù²¹á¹‡a°ì³Ü³ÙÅ«³ó²¹±ô²¹ (करणकà¥à¤¤à¥‚हà¤) is the name of a work by BhÄskara (classified as literature dealing with astronomy, astrology, divination, medicine) of which a commentary is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppiâ€ library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—The °²¹°ù²¹á¹‡a°ì³Ü³ÙÅ«³ó²¹±ô²¹ could be a commentary on BhÄskara’s °²¹°ù²¹á¹‡a°ì³Ü³ÙÅ«³ó²¹±ô²¹ because it is popular in West and Northwest India (pingree, JyotiḥśÄstra p. 35). This was confirmed by prof. S.R. Sarma who brought supportive evidence and provided invaluable explanations about the contents.

Jyotisha (जà¥à¤¯à¥‹à¤¤à¤¿à¤, Âá²â´Ç³Ù¾±á¹£a or jyotish) refers to ‘astronomyâ€ or “Vedic astrologyâ€ and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.

[Sanskrit to German]
Sanskrit, also spelled संसà¥à¤•ृतमà¥ (²õ²¹á¹ƒs°ìá¹›t²¹³¾), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
