The Gupta empire (r. 3rd-century CE), founded by 艢r墨 Gupta, covered much of ancient India and embraced the Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
Himavacchikhara literally means 鈥渢he peak of the Himalayas鈥� it has been identified with Bar膩hachatra (Var膩hak峁tra) in Nepal, which is the same as the Kok膩mukha-t墨rtha mentioned in the Mah膩bh膩rata and the Pur膩峁嘺s. The original temples of the gods Kok膩mukha and 艢vetavar膩ha referred to in the record along with Himavac-chikhara, were situated at this place.
