ٳū貹ٰ (धूम्रपत्रा) is the Sanskrit name for a medicinal plant identified with Nicotiana tabacum Linn. or “cultivated tobacco� from the Solanaceae or “nightshades� family of flowering plants, according to verse 5.34-35 of the 13th-century Raj Nighantu or Rājanighaṇṭu. Note: ٳū貹ٰ is a native plant of America and entered India with Portugese, hence it is not described by earlier Nighaṇṭus. It us used in toothache.

ٳū貹ٰ is mentioned as having seven synonyms: Dhūmrāhvā, Sulabhā, Svayambhuvā, Gṛdhrapatrā, Gṛdhrāṇ�, Krimighnī and Strīmalāpahā.

Properties and characteristics: “ٳū貹ٰ� is bitter in taste (rasa) and hot (ṣṇ) in potency. It is an anthelmintic and cures oedema and cough. It is an appetiser and digestive stimulant�.
