Source: Wisdom Library: Śilpa-śāstraśūپ (अर्धनारिश्वरमूर्ति) refers to an image (ūپ) of an aspect of Śiva. Ardhanāriśvara literally means “half male / half female�. The Pūrva-kāraṇāgama states that the figures of Śiva in the ś-ūپ aspect should not have near them the figure of the Devi. The colour, according to the ṇāg, of the ś-ūپ aspect of Śiva is to be coral red.
: Shodhganga: Iconographical representations of Śiva (shilpa)1) īśūپ (अर्धनारीश्वरमूर्ति) or simply īś refers to one of the eighteen forms (ūپ) of Śiva mentioned in the ṇāg (پṣaṇa-貹ṭa): the fourth among the Siddhāntaśaivāgamas. The forms of Śiva (e.g., īś-ūپ) are established through a process known as ⲹ, described as a five-fold process of creation.
2) īśūپ is also listed among the twelve forms (ūپ) of Śiva mentioned in the ܱ岵 (پṣaṇa-貹ṭa): the tenth among the Siddhāntaśaivāgamas.
3) īśūپ is also listed among the eighteen forms (ūپ) of Śiva mentioned in the Śilparatna (twenty-second ⲹ): a technical treatise by Śrīkumāra on Śilpaśāstra.
