This page describes the nature of fruition (anubhava) which is verse 8.22 of the English translation of the Tattvartha Sutra which represents the essentials of Jainism and Jain dharma and deals with the basics on Karma, Cosmology, Ethics, Celestial beings and Liberation. The Tattvarthasutra is authorative among both Digambara and Shvetambara. This is verse 22 of the chapter Bondage of Karmas and includes an extensive commentary.
Verse 8.22 - The nature of fruition (anubhava)

啶� 啶ぅ啶距え啶距ぎ 啷� 啷�.啷ㄠエ 啷�
sa yath膩n膩ma || 8.22 ||
The nature of fruition is according to the names of the karmas. (22)

啶呧え啷嵿さ啶ぞ啶班啶�: [啶膏] 啶す 啶呧え啷佮き啶距 啶え啷嵿ぇ [啶ぅ啶距え啶距ぎ] 啶曕ぐ啷嵿ぎ啷嬥 啶曕 啶ㄠぞ啶� 啶曕 啶呧え啷佮じ啶距ぐ 啶灌 啶灌啶むぞ 啶灌啷�
Anvayartha: [sah] yaha anubhaga bandha [yathanama] karmom ke nama ke anusara hi hota hai |
Explanation in English from 膧c膩rya P奴jyap膩da鈥檚 Sarv膩rthasiddhi:
The disciple says, 鈥淭he ripening of karmas accumulated formerly is fruition. We admit this. But we do not know this other thing. Is fruition according to the nature of karmas or otherwise? 鈥淵es,鈥� says the author. Fruition is according to the nature of the species of karmas enumerated. This is declared in the next 蝉奴迟谤补.
The fruit of knowledge-covering (箩帽腻苍腻惫补谤补峁嘺) karma is absence of knowledge. The effect of perception-covering (诲补谤艣补苍腻惫补谤补峁嘺) karma is to obscure perception. Thus the effects of all karmas are significant and are true to their meanings. Hence there is agreement between the several types of karmas and their fruition鈥�anubhava.
