Verse 4.23 - Prior to the Graiveyaka are the Kalpa

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of Tattvartha ūٰ 4.23:

प्राग्वेयकेभ्य कल्पाः  .२३

prāgveyakebhya kalpā || 4.23 ||

Prior to the graiveyaka are the kalpa. (23)

Hindi Anvayarth:

अन्वयार्: ग्रैवेयकों से पहिल के सोलह स्वर्गों को कल्प कहते हैं। उनसे आग के विमा कल्पाती हैं।

Anvayartha: graiveyakom se pahile ke solaha svargom ko kalpa kahate haim | unase age ke vimana kalpatita haim |

Explanation in English from Ācārya Pūjyapāda’s Sarvārthasiddhi:

Kalpopapanna has been used earlier. Who are these?

It is not known wherefrom the kalpa commence. Hence Saudharma, etc., are taken over (from ūٰ 4-19). It means that Saudharma and the rest, up to graiveyaka, are the kalpa. It also follows that the others are beyond the kalpa첹īٲ.
