Head-dress of Men during the Pallava period
Head-dress of men in this period can be broadly categorized into four styles: -
- Crowns,
- Tiara,
- Turban,
- Head-dress during warfare.
In many cases a simple fore-head band (agrapatta) with an ornamental jewel attached to it can also be seen. There are also cases where differentiating a tiara from a forehead band becomes a difficult task, as a forehead band itself transforms into a tiara, as a result of exuberant jeweled appendages attached to it. These three types of head-dress are described below with suitable examples drawn out from the various sculptures of this period.
