This Study deals with the History, Culture and Antiquities of Tamralipta: an ancient city-port and important Trade centre with a rich history of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Tamralipta corresponds to the modern Tamluk, situated in West Bengal (India) and witnessed prosperous times during the Gupta dynasty.

This terracotta plaque (Fig.-44) depicts a mother holding
her child on her right lap. She stands on a balcony whose
architecturel design is seen in the lower portion of the plaque.
Another specimen of the same period on plaque is also found in
the collection of T.M.R.C. ( Acc. No. 394 ). Here the mother is
shown holding her child on her left lap while the child is
fondling with the mother's breast. This is a common scene of every
57 house-hold in India since the heaty past.

This terracotta plaque (Fig.-45) depicts a standing male
with his righy hand in abhayamudra pose and the left hand in akimbo.
He wears circular headdress and big-sized ear-rings. He has a
dagger attached to his a girdle.
