Stones in Hampi

U. L. Gouranga Rao

live stones!
‘n´Çâ€
cried the geologist in me,
â€ÈÙ¾±±ô¾±³¦²¹â€
roared the chemist in me,
wordy wrangle
I silenced.

these lines
chiselled
in articulate angles
a geometrical pattern,
a pair of clay hands
and technology
iron and skill.

silence their language,
wilderness their abode,
fair breeze their food,
the rythm of the rolling stream
symphony for their ears,
and darkness their couch ...

Eastless and Westless,
never restless
live side by side,
with no differences
of dangerous dimensions,
with mutual appreciation
and no sense of appropriation ...

We moved on.
Casual eyes catch the lives
scattered all around.

Scientist crippled the artist
Oh! a plague.
We moved on.
a live stone!
‘How is life?’
A rush of wind
pressed its cheeks
as it blew buzzing by
‘Unlike your’s.
