A story in praise of a fast called Kukkutivrata, or fowl fast. Chandramukhi, wife of Nahusa, is said to have first originated this fast, and Krishna is described as having taken his birth in the womb of Devaki to reward her piety in having observed it. A modification of it under the name of Lalitasaptami is now observed by Hindu women, on the 7 th of the waxing moon in the month of Bhadra, the forbidden bird being omitted. Anonymous.
