According to Kane (History of Dharmas膩stra, Vol. I) the 啶膏�嵿ぎ啷冟い啶苦い啶む�嵿い啷嵿さ
[蝉尘峁泃颈迟补迟迟惫补
] was composed between 1520-1570 A. D., 啶灌ぐ啶苦き啶曕�嵿い啶� 啶掂た啶侧ぞ啶� [haribhakti vil膩sa ] about 1562
A. D., and the 啶掂��啶班ぎ啶苦い啷嵿ぐ啷嬥う啶� [惫墨谤补尘颈迟谤辞诲补测补 ] was composed between 1610-1640 A. D.
Now it is interesting to note that neither Gopala-bha峁�峁璦 (who was
a contemporary of Raghunandana and also belonged to Bengal)
nor Mitra-mi艣ra reads the second line of this verse as-- '啶む�佮げ啶膏�� 啶曕�冟し啷嵿��-
啶む�佮げ啶膏�� 啶膏う啷嵿く啶膏�嵿い啷佮し啷嵿�熰た啶曕ぐ啶� 啶灌ぐ啷囙�� [tulas墨 k峁涐梗峁嘺-
tulas墨 sadyastu峁ａ弓ikara峁� hare岣� ] '. No other Nibandhak膩ra has quoted this verse.
Thus Raghunandana's text '啶む�佮げ啶膏�� 啶曕�冟し啷嵿ぃ啶む�佮げ啶膏�� 啶膏う啷嵿く啶膏�嵿い啷佮し啷嵿�熰た啶曕ぐ啶� 啶灌ぐ啷囙�� [tulas墨 k峁涐梗峁嘺tulas墨 sadyastu峁ａ弓ikara峁� hare岣�] ' is not sup-
ported by any other Nibandhak膩ra.
Now let us see the position of the text of this verse in the
Manuscripts of the V膩mana-Pur膩na. We collated 20 manuscripts
and consulted some 10 manuscripts, all of various versions belong-
ing to different regions and written in different scripts, such as
艢膩rada, Kashmirian, Bengali, Telugu, and of dates ranging from
1522 A. D., for constituting the text of the Vamana-Purana. None
of these manuscripts, however, not even the Bengali manuscripts,
contain the text of this verse as quoted by Raghunandana. The
text of this verse as found in the MSS is almost the same (with a
few variants) as quoted in the 啶灌ぐ啶苦き啶曕�嵿い啶苦さ啶苦げ啶距�� [丑补谤颈产丑补办迟颈惫颈濒腻蝉补 ] and the 啶掂��啶班ぎ啶苦い啷嵿ぐ啷嬥う啶�. [惫墨谤补尘颈迟谤辞诲补测补. ] The
text constituted on the basis of these MSS in our Critical Edition
of the V膩mana-Pur膩na is as follows:-
