P膩艣upatas and the Sauras are denounced as hypocrites (艣l. 31);
and even Hari and Hara are made to serve the feat of their
consorts (艣l. 39). Still, this Stuti of the Devi-Bh膩gavata is full of
devotional spirit. It also expounds the principle of the primeval
艢akti which enables even the three Gods to perform their respective
function of creation, preservation and destruction (艣ls. 34-35).
But in its sectarian zeal the Devi-Bh膩gavata in this Devi-
stuti goes even so far as to attribute the cause of disease and
poverty to the lack of devotion (sectarian) to Dev墨 in one's
