Contemporary Relevance Of Vernacular Architecture

The vernacular architecture has proved as a budding area of interest and research in a comparatively short period time. Such growing interest and cornucopia of studies or publications on vernacular architecture is testimony of the relevance of the subject in the contemporary period. The growing internationalism in architecture is gradually eradicating the local traditions and ignoring the rich content of architectural traditions though “they are found in right harmony between the necessities of living, the environment, material resources and ideas on the use of space (Antarikananda, Douvlou, &McCartney:2006). Therefore, the vernacular architecture is gradually drawing the attention of world and the growing studies and researches have gradually brought out numerous positive and contemporary values of subject. Thus, the scholars from diverse fields have brought out diverse interests and significance of the subject. Thus, apart from the architectural values of the vernacular architecture, studies have highlighted different contemporary virtues of the vernacular architecture. Such findings and recognition of values in vernacular architecture have firmly recognized the contemporary relevance of the vernacular architecture.
