Surya or the Sun god is one of the chief Vedic traid of gods, the being Indra and Agni. In the Rgueda several hymns are addressed to Surya, and declares "Surya is the soul, a both of moving and unmoving beings." He is also known as Aditya. He is a resplendent divine person, a representative of God in the world manifesting himself as the life power and sustaining strength everywhere. 108. 45 The Sun is the eye of the Virat Purusa and is the presiding deity over the eyes of all, the Pranopanisad identifies the Sun with Prana, the Chandogya Upanisad visualises in him the countenance of God and makes him the center of the mystic meditation called Madhuvidya. In India, the Sun is not merely heating orb, but atomic energy, that is released into a form of forceful activity. The religious observance of Sandhyavandana or the prayer to be offered during the three junctions of the day in relation to the Sun morning noon and evening - is considered to be obligatory on the part of every orthodox Hindu. It is the belief that Soul which reaches Krama-Mukti, passes through the region of the Sun, Surya Dvara. A special exercise known as 'Surya Namaskara, is devoted to the worship of the Sun and is daily practiced by the devout Hindus during their Sandhyavandana. In the Gayatri Mantra, this myth is prayed for the guidance of thoughts and actions along the right path.
