In addition to the employment of Sabdālankāras, Trivikrama
Pandita has adorned his poetry of Uṣāharaṇa an epic poem, by means of
ٳ, where meaning of the verse is predominent. A perusal of
the Uṣāharaṇa makes it clear that Trivikrama Paṇḍita has brought in
different figures of speech in proper contexts. A detailed illustration of
different Alankāras may be seen as below:
1. 34 [Simile] :
Among the figures of speech, those that are based on similarity,
Upamā forms the basis of many other figures, and hence it is regarded
as chief. Therefore, here the treatment of Alaṃkāra is begun with Upamā.
There are number of examples illustrating Upamā in the epic poem. Here
is an example :
अवतीर्� विमानेभ्यो बिम्बेभ्� इव भास्वत� �
विद्योतितद्युदेशेभ्य� प्रपात� ते प्रपेदिर� � � [ [avatīrya vimānebhyo bimbebhya iva bhāsvata� |
vidyotitadyudeśebhya� prapāta� te prapedire | | [ ] I. 30]
"Gods were travelling through their aerial cars which were as
brilliant as the orb of the Sun. Therefore those aerial cars made the
Antarikṣa lustrous. The gods having descended from their aerial cars
approached the shore of the milk ocean."
As Mammaṭa defines, Upamā exists where there is striking
similarity between two things. 25 In the treatment of Upamā if all
