Part 5u - Alaṃkāra (21): Vyatireka or contrast or dissimilitude
When the upameya excels or falls short of the ܱ貹Բ or the viceversa, it is Vyatireka[1] or contrast. The word Vyatireka means difference or excellence. As for example, in the verse, ṅkDZԲԲǰṃhܰṛt[2] …�.., the poet salutes the face of ī, that goddess who is sitting on the back of a roaring lion, having tremulous nails. Herein this verse, it has been implied that the face of ī is superior to the moon, which makes it an example of the figure Vyatireka. Some other examples of this figure are- � 첹śԲ[3] …�, Dz� dz岹ṭṭ[4] …�
