Vaisnavism Vaisnavism is the name given to that form of religion of Hindus, which by the practice of Bhakti, and faith, worship Visnu, proclaims him as one supreme being under different epithets. The worship of Visnu 47 dates back from the times of Vedas.� In the Brahmana period, He is
accepted as the highest and most excellent of the gods. 48 Once elevated
to a highest position, he become more and more alienated from his
popular solar character, in Vedas. He is represented in puran s as sitting
entroned with his consort Laksmi in Vaikunta bestowed with the power of
eternal Brahman.
The Bhakti is the essence of Vaisnavism. This is manifested in the
Nārāyaniya Section of Mahābhārata" where in Bhakti played a very
important role. South India has a glorious tradition of Vaisnavabhakti
movement of Nāyanārs.
As a work having strong roots in puranic tradition, SSM sanctifies
the Bhakti on Visnu. He is glorified under several epithets like
Kamalalocana, Jagannatha, Padmalocana, Garudasena, Varijanabha,
Murari and so on.
50 Though next to Siva Visnu assumes an important position in SSM.
The exaltation Visnu above all gods, the highly concrete conception of the
Deity and the personal nature of the relation between him and his
worshippers are some of the salient features of Vaisnavism in SSM.

the Visnu worship by various puranic personalities like Atri, Vedavyasa,
