Chapter XI
To give renovate to the vedic religion, in Kaliyuga, Paramaśiva was
born in Kerala, in the name of SankarÄcÄrya. In childhood itself he
learned vedas and sastras, sixty four arts, two ItihasÄs and eighteen
PurÄṇÄs. Sankara became a devotee to Siva leaving worldly affairs. One
day Lord Siva appeared before SanskarÄcÄrya in the form of an aged saint
and told him thus: "your deeds are worthy. You are lord Parameśvara
who is the teacher of all worlds. Then why do you think on him? Please
tell what is your desire?" Then Siva appeared in his own form. Śriśankara
prostrated before Siva. On seeing Åšiva his life became fruitful, so said
Sankara. Lifting Åšrisankara from the ground Siva asked him to follow him
to the Bilva forest. Taking the hand of Sankara on his Åšiva walked to that
place. When they reached there Siva showed him his own form. The
time was the beginning of Kaliyuga and the Bilva tree was transformed
into Aśvattha.
Śriparameśvara gave Sankara divine vision and divine instructions
standing under that tree. That great teacher, who has became an ardent
devotee saw Brahma, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara in staṇulinga became
happy. He praised them standing like this.
