This is an English study of the Sankalpa Suryodaya鈥攁n allegorical Sanskrit drama by Venkatanatha, a distinguished philosopher-poet and dramatist of the Vishishtadvaita Vedanta tradition. This work of Venkata-natha (or, Vedanta Deshika). stands out for integrating allegory to convey moral and philosophical truths. The thesis examines its place in Sanskrit literature.

After entertaining doubts of his efforts, Abhinive艣a decides to give up the

But, both Abhinive艣a and Durv膩san膩 see king Mah膩moha getting ready for
the battle, and become anxious to know about Mah膩moha's victory. 6
SAMV峁歍ISATYA OR VY脛VAH脛RIKASATYA
In a similar way, the dramatist brings another envoy of king Mah膩moha
namely, Samv峁泃isatya. He brings the message of Mah膩moha to king Viveka.
Disclosing the letter, the messenger says thus:
"Your majesty, this letter contains the order of the emperor Mah膩moha, the
ruler over the fourteen worlds, acting on the advice of his minister Samsaya (doubt)
and who abides always by the wishes of his queen, Durmati. The orders were
