The ritual:
It is performed in the evening (savahna) in
a kusuma-mandapa (a pavilion bedecked with flowers
erected to the N.E. of one's house). On the altar is
arranged rice in a heap and a new jar, without any
damage, filled with water, white-washed, woven with
rounds of thread, with five kinds of leaves, cowdung
and some jewel, is kept on it. Then, Varuna is invoked
in it and offered worship. On a silken piece of cloth
spread on the jar is now placed the golden idol of
Nrsimha and is worshipped with Sodasopacara (sixteen
articles of offering) while reciting the formula in
85 Anustubh metre with intermittant offering of Arghya
